our history

In 1976, Alton Allen began farming in Santa Maria with just 5 acres of strawberries and the help of his three young sons. Struggling through those early years, Alton grew the business by producing a top quality product and establishing a reputation for uncompromising integrity. Eventually, as the farming operation grew, the need for cooling and sales arose, providing an opportunity to expand into the beginnings of the vertically integrated operation that Main Street Produce is today. Although Alton passed away in 2003 and is greatly missed, Main Street Produce still operates under the same code of ethics that he instilled in his family and his company. Today, that translates into developing business practices that are sensitive to the needs of our customers, employees, community and environment. We enjoy knowing that what we do is part of bringing other families together around the dinner table, and we are proud of our reputation for quality and integrity.
